      Obituary:

      Richard Svihus was born October9, 1930 in San Francisco. He passed away on June 30, 2015 in Chico. Richard led an illustrious and rich life and was renowned internationally for his work in public health. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Bobbi and two sons: Douglas of Racine, Sisconsin and Eric whith his wife, Joanne of Chico. As service will be held Wednesday, July 8 at 11:00 Am at St. John’s Episcopal Chruch,2341 Floral Avenue, Chico. In liew of flowers, please send donations in Richard’s memory to the Shriners Hospital for Children or St. John’s Episcopal Church Organ Fund.       Richard as born October 9th, 1930 in San Francisco, California to Harold and Gertrude Svihus. At the age of four, he was playing Pinky in the RKO radio program oof ONe Man’s Family. He graduated from college in 1955.

      In the summer of 1954, he met the love of his life, Bobbie Lucas in Sonoma. They were married in 1955 and recently celebrated 60 years of marriage. He ompleted an internship at the US Navy at Oak Knoll Naval Hospital in Oakland, CA. Their son, Erik, was born there on April 1956. He then spent a year in the Naval Offie for U.S. Marines in Okinawa. He then spent 2 years in Baltimore, MD. where he received a doctor of public health from John Hopkins University while living in Baltimore where their second son, Douglas, was born in 1960.

      Together they traveled the world living in Italy for 3 years. After retiring from the Navy, he was employed a Director of Health for Santa Cruz County and Butte County Behavioral Health. In 1971 he was listed in the November edition of “Who’s who in California and Who’s who in the Western United States.”
