    • As newly married,, they lived in "Gamle Korsen", while his father Carl Esaias moved to "Sjannajset" on Notenes where he died in 1858, five years after his wife Elisabeth Marie Mechlenburg died.

Carl Esaias Rønnebergs (1779-1858) illegitimate daughter, by Per Rønneberg Bremnes

For a long time I thought that Caroline Rønneberg was Carl Esaias Rønneberg's and Elisabeth Mechlenburg's legitimate daughter. But she is not. I have overlooked the fact that Caroline was born 7 years before they were married. First, I thought I had mistyped her date of birth, and then I looked for Caroline in the list of those born in Borgund during that time period without finding her. The Census for Ålesund 1865 gave me a clue: She was born in Lyngen in 1804. Making a long history short, I found her in the Church Book for Lyngen for the period 1785 - 1821. On the date, 6 November 1804, the minister had entered: "Baptized today Caroline, illegitimate daughter of Maria Johannisdtr. and Carl Esaias Rønneberg, Ålesund".

Caroline's daughter Karen Marie played an important part in making the sculptors on the headstones for her 1st cousin Carl Esaias Rønneberg's (1854 -1912) grave. It is not surprising that she did. Her daughter Hanna Jacobine was married to him.
