Translation by Sigmund Rønneberg of a postcard with writing and a picture of Gyda Rønneberg/Erdmann and her family.

Here you see a picture made outside the house of Kongsviger where Gyda lives, they have a lovely, big garden and park, house, one cow, two pigs and chickens, a lot of fruit and vegetables. We were all the way up to the fort and looked at the big guns. We drove around a lot in the lovely forest Finnskogen. Here you see Harald, Anna and his three children, Gyda, her husband and their five children.

Greetings mother, (Tomine)

Visit from Germany -Visitt fra Tyskland
Visit from Germany -Visitt fra Tyskland
Four German descendants of Elias Rønneberg visited Norway in 1938
By Per Rønneberg Bremnes

In the newspaper “Sunnmørsposten” in the year 1938, there is an article about “The German Rønnebergs”. In the article we can read about four members of the German Rønneberg family – Corrinna Møller (married Merzyn), Elfriede Møller (married Helmcke), Hilda Møller (married Schwindrazheim) and Wilhelm Ronneberg Møller. They were siblings, and they came to find their roots in Norway.

The siblings were the great-grand children of merchant and pilot Elias Rønneberg from Valderhaug. Elias was the brother of Rasmus Rønneberg on Larsnes and Carl Esaias in Ålesund. It is been told about Elias that he owned “half the Valderøy island”. The siblings’ grandfather was Peter Christopher Rønneberg – the son of Elias and Karen Sibylla Baade. Peter Christopher went to Germany in 1830 in the age of 18. The newspaper states that Peter Christopher was the father of the siblings, but that is not correct. They were born to Corinna Marie Charlotte Rønneberg – Peter Christophers daughter – and Fritz Møller.

In Ålesund, the siblings were met by several members of the family. In a photo taken by Sunnmørsposten, we find the siblings: Louise Rønneberg (married Bødtker), Christopher and Harald Rønneberg. The youngest members of the family were also represented. They were Christopher’s children Bjarne and Gunnar. Gunnar told me that it was great to be in the newspaper. The fact that the visitors were relatives from Germany was not important.

The visitors had a trip to Korsen before they went to the church yard in Borgund, were they visited the burial place of their great-grand parents. It was there Wilhelm should have said, ”At this moment my heart is tumbling”.
